Our History

The inspiring journey of Vasavi Vidya Trust and the establishment of Vysya College.

The Genesis

Vasavi Vidya Trust was formed by Seven Executive Trustees and with ten members in Salem. The Trust consists of 205 members in and around the TamilNadu State, dedicated to the cause of higher education.

The Trust hosted a Conference on 12-4-1989 in Salem and decided to start a value-based School in Salem district. At that time, Thiru. O.V.S. Pandurangan held the post of Chairmanship, Thiru. G. Manikkam Chettiar held the post of Secretary, and Thiru. S.A.V.R. Krishnan held the post of Treasurer.

The Evolution

In the Vasavi Vidya Trust, magnanimous people were willing to endorse value-based higher education. A final decision was taken in the conference on 06-07-1989 to start a college in Salem district instead of a new school, as several private schools were already functioning by the Vysya community.

02-11-1989

Land was registered at Masinaickenpatty Village, Ayothiapattinam, in Salem city.

25-01-1990

Foundation was laid for the construction of the Higher Education Institution by the Trust.

06-06-1990

Proposal accepted and sanction accorded (G.O. No. 762/1990) to start a new self-financing College.

29-07-1990

Inauguration by the former honorable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Thiru. M. Karunanithi.

1998

Affiliation transferred to the newly formed Periyar University, Salem District.
